Touristy stuff around Sydney:

  • Kayak in Watson’s Bay
  • St. Mary’s Cathedral
  • Tea Room at QVB <- have high tea while you are there for sure!
  • Fireworks at Darling Harbour (Friday/Saturday nights I think) <— spectacular fireworks
  • Queen Victoria Building
  • Cockle Bay Wharf/Chinese Garden of Friendship/Darling Harbour
  • Sydney Opera House

Blue Mountains:

  • Scenic World, Three Sisters
  • Featherdale Wildlife Park (take bus 9-5 pm daily)

Food in Sydney:

  • Encasa <- good spanish food
  • The Tea Cosy (The Rocks) <- one of my favorite places
  • N2 Ice Cream <- liquid nitrogen ice cream
  • The Basement jazz club <- live band and dancing!
  • Ramen Kan <- super sketchy and hard to find, up a terrifying elevator, but if you get there alive delicious food
  • Da Orazio – get the porchetta sandwich (3/75-79 Hall St Bondi 2026, 5 pm onwards, or 12 pm onwards on Sat/Sun) <- delicious
  • Pancakes on the Rocks <- GO HERE
  • The Dough Collective <- free samples, life-changing

Outdoors Walking Tracks near/in Sydney:

  • Bondi to Coogee walk <- DO THIS, preferably at sunset 
  • North Head in Sydney Harbour National Park (near Manly Beach)
  • Hermitage Foreshore Track (in Sydney)
  • Bradley’s head & amphitheater (Mosman)
  • Sydney Olympic park/Cockatoo Island/Paramatta Park <- pretty ferry ride
  • Camp Cove

South Island, NZ:

  • Queenstown <— spend lots of time here, adventure capital. Super fun town
  • Shotover Bridge
  • Nevis Bungee Jump <— not for the faint of heart
  • Lake Tekapo – Church of Good Shepherd

North Island, NZ:


  • Giapo’s Ice Cream <— In Auckland CBD, most ritzy ice cream cone of you life
  • Ferry out to islands

Rotorua: <— Also a super cool town, we spent several days there

  • Redwoods
  • Polynesian Spa <—— actually awesome
  • Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Park <— Do one of these for sure!
  • Te Puia Geothermal Park        <— or this one
  • Rotorua Museum <— cool architecture, didn’t go inside
  • Maori village
  • Fat dog <— burgers

Hobbiton <— for the LOTR fans among you, super beautiful even for non-fans 🙂


  • Huka falls <— pretty, can take jet boat to there
  • Spa park <—— Definitely go here if you can at all. It’s an outdoor, naturally heated hot spring complete with waterfall!


  • Zealandia <—— Do night tour and see kiwi birds
  • Weta cave <— Studio that made costumes and props for Lord of the Rings
  • Stansborough Wool <— Collaborated with Weta to make some costumes for LOTR
